About Afya Algorithm

How It Started

My name is Timothy Mwangi and I am a 4th year medical student in Kenya with a growing interest in medical research, medical writing, health technology, and evidence based health communication.

As I started exploring medical writing and research more seriously, I began thinking about how I could build something of my own, a space where I could research, write, learn, and share medical knowledge beyond the classroom.

At first, I thought of calling it Wamugunda Writes. But I realized I wanted to build something that could eventually grow beyond my name, a platform with thousands of readers and, someday, other contributors sharing different perspectives on health and medicine.

That became Afya Algorithm.

Why Health Information?

Medical information is everywhere, but understanding it isn't always easy.

In Kenya, across Africa, and in many other parts of the world, myths and misconceptions still influence how people understand common conditions. At the same time, reliable information can be difficult to find, buried in complicated medical language, or simply not presented in a way that feels relevant to everyday people.

I wanted to create a space that could help bridge that gap.

Afya Algorithm is my attempt to take complex medical and health topics, go back to the evidence, and turn them into clear, accessible, and engaging information - without losing the science behind them.

The Journey Ahead

For now, Afya Algorithm is entirely run by me. I research the topics, write and edit the articles, manage the website, and work on everything behind the scenes.

I'm starting small, but the idea is simple: build something useful, keep learning, and grow it into a platform that makes good health information easier to understand and access.

And after thinking about how I could turn my interests in medical research and writing into something meaningful, I decided, let me start writing.
